Client Case Details

Client's presenting issues:
Client's presenting issues: The client presenting issues are the same as in the previous referral. He again describes that for a long time he has been 'just keeping going but not getting there or able to do anything right'. He states he is again feeling overwhelmed & under pressure within his family circle. He is trying to juggle work, uni & home. One of his children has anger issues & another is in the process of being diagnosed with Autism. His wife has been diagnosed with Asperger's. He is still having a difficult relationship with his sister & his mother who have opinions on his personal life & how he & his wife should live. His sister was attacked 12 years ago & he has taken on responsibility to take care of her since then. This is problematic as he feels responsible for her well-being & afraid that if he says anything outside that which she wants to hear she will kill herself - which she says she will do on occasions. He states he still feels as if he is stretched to his limit & is exhausted. The client as in the previous sessions states his family still rely on him & he always wants to 'be there' for everyone including his alcoholic father but he cannot say anything they do not want to hear nor do they listen to him when he tries to express how much strain he is under.

What does the client want from counselling?
The client stated that again he would like counselling to be a safe space within which he is able to explore his thoughts and feelings around areas of his life and within his extended family that he is struggling to both understand and cope with. He would like to be able to explore positive coping mechanisms for the future i.e talking out loud and using positive statements, thus working towards improving his overall EHWB.

How well is the client able to cope with their situation?
The client stated that his situation is still the same as in the previous allocated sessions. Within today's session he again states that he is still finding it difficult at this present time due to all of the issues documented above. He feels the issues within his extended family unit have not improved. He states he is still struggling to cope with it all. He states as in the previous sessions, he still does not want any of these worries or stress from his family and feels this is having a negative impact on his overall EHWB. He stated that his confidence is still low, he feels in his words he is 'a good honest person", but again is finding this hard to see in himself due to family issues. He feels he is again losing his own self worth.

What is the client’s support network? (Family, friends, GP, Mental Health team etc.)
The client states as in the previous lot of sessions she again he feels his wife & friends are supportive. He feels he is close to his mum and sister but is not able to turn to them for support
